Windpunk is a cozy survival-craft game about reviving the remains of a shattered small open-world with a changing ecosystem. Command a drifting mobile base/ The Ark 14B as you traverse a series of storm-ravaged biomes, clean up waste, restore ecosystems, and build your own restoration solutions to an ecological collapse gone sideways.

History

Originally titled Wasteland Waste Disposal, Windpunk was born out of frustration with the slow response to ecological issues. "We shape our environment and ecosystems in a very systemic way, and often we have very little control over it. That's where the inspiration for the game comes from." The project envisions a future where environmental restoration is problematic but achievable. The new name, Windpunk, was adopted in 2025 both to reflect the game's evolving mechanics where wind, weather, and passive energy shape gameplay, and to navigate potential naming conflicts with preexisting "Wasteland" IPs. The new identity better captures the heart of the games focus to climate tools, strange weather machines, and a DIY optimism in the face of ruin. The project envisions a future where environmental restoration is problematic but achievable.

• Survive: Navigate a whimsical and bizarre world filled with quirky lifeforms, harsh weather conditions, tribes, and raiders. Clean, refine, and build by day to ensure survival at night. Anything can serve as ammunition, with each projectile offering unique characteristics.
• Restore with Wind-powered Tools: Harness windlinks, gliders, and scrap-built devices to clean up and reconnect a broken world.
• Recycle - Refine - Rebuild: Upgrade and manage your mobile base to keep yourself and your crew safe. Convert collected waste into essential materials and machinery. Balance repairs, safety, recruiting, and equipment upgrades to effectively revive the wasteland. Huge catalog of findable unique items to trade or use for building material.
• Compact Reactive Small Open World: The wasteland is a living breathing ecosystem and you can shape it for better or worse. There is 5 different biomes with uniquely volatile ecosystems. As you cleanse the wasteland, the ecosystem reacts to your actions. Decide between sustainable solutions or risky endeavors to uncover the secrets buried within the debris and restore balance to the apocalypse.
• Diverse Crew with Unique Skills: Recruit and manage a crew with specialized skills in bioengineering, recycling, and defense. Enhance their abilities to optimize facility operations.
• Collect them all: The wasteland is a treasure trove for a collector. You can collect and make mixtapes or put together an impressive sticker collection. Trade and sell unique finds in the Lost and Found shop.
